Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior official said the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
